Tec Lighting EMEA to launch innovative UV coating and curing solutions at Drupa

Tec Lighting EMEA, will use its first presence on the Drupa show floor to launch and demonstrate its innovative UV coating and curing solutions for a wide range of applications.

"We are very excited to see the many new developments in digital print towards larger formats and higher quality, and we are proud to be able to respond to these developments and offer the best suited solution for UV coating for many, if not all of these newly announced print solutions," states Tony Michiels, CEO of Tec Lighting EMEA. "Our current track record shows that our customers have proven to be highly successful in adding value to the prints they generate and sell. The added value of Print-On-Demand on itself is quickly fading as customers get used to the possibilities and more providers become available. High quality UV coating of print is adding value well above the typical margins related to POD and helps printers grow their business."

At Drupa, both in-line and off-line solutions will be presented in live printing environments.

TruCoat UV Coater product line
The new TruCoat UV Coater solutions are available in stand-alone or inline configurations. Gloss, satin or matt coatings can be applied at speeds of up to 4000 sheets per hour. The TruCoat range features a modern design that maximizes simplicity.

"Starting up the TruCoat UV coater happens in less than 3 minutes, while switching between different coatings takes only 5 minutes, including purging and cleaning of coating injectors and rollers." says Tony Michiels. "In addition, switching between coatings, production and cleaning the coater requires no harmful chemicals. UV coated documents are 100% recyclable. These arguments make our solutions 'tru'-ly eco-friendly. The addition of an easy to use touch screen guides the operator through every step in the coating process, making production set up quick and easy."

The TruCoat solution is available in 40 cm, 53 cm and 76 cm width, and in-line and off-line configurations. An in-line TRU-16 configuration will be on show connected to the Kodak NexPress.

Launch of the d-cube roll-to-roll coater
Tec Lighting EMEA will launch the innovative d-cube roll-to-roll UV coating solution in its booth at Drupa (Hall 9, C41). This solution fits perfectly in roll-fed production workflows for a wide range of applications where double sided coating is required. The d-cube will be available in maximum widths ranging from 52 cm to 102 cm, capable of coating materials 50 to 250 microns in thickness.

"The d-cube offers unseen productivity advantages, running at production speeds up to 250 meter per minute, matching the production speeds of conventional, digital and hybrid web fed presses," clarifies Martin Van Waeyenberge, Business Development for Tec Lighting EMEA. "The system allows different varnishes to be used on either side of the web and varnish application rollers which can be customized to enable spot-varnish applications."

High speed duplex sheet fed coating solutions
In premiere, Tec Lighting EMEA will uncover a cost-effective high speed duplex coating solution using its proprietary STD: Sheet Turner Device system. "The principle is easy to understand," explains Tony Michiels. "Two high speed, single sided sheet fed UV coaters are placed in-line coupled by our innovative sheet turning solution. This allows for the coated sheets to rest and cure while being turned, prior to entering the second coater All this happens in a smooth process without any loss in production speed."

This compact solution will be demonstrated on the Tec Lighting EMEA booth in a 16" wide configuration.

Extended range of UV coating and curing solutions on show
Tec Lighting EMEA offers a wide range of sheetfed UV Coating solutions, but also delivers custom engineered coating and curing equipment to suit customers individual needs. A wide variety of solutions will be demonstrated with our partners throughout Drupa.

Tec Lighting EMEA (Hall 9, C41) will showcase the aforementioned d-cube and High Speed Duplex Coater. The cost-efficient  XC 14 MiniCoater will be in live production, demonstrating the efficiency and ease-of-use of the XtraCoat engines.

In addition, a custom solution is demonstrated combining MCS hi-speed inkjet printing with a Tec Lighting UV curing unit.

  • Kodak (Hall 5, F09): will show the TRU-16" solution in-line with the NexPress digital press;
  • Screen (Hall 9, A40): will feature the off-line B2-sized TRU-21" on their booth;
  • Ryobi (Hall 17, C01): will incorporate the TRU-21" UV coating solution in their B2-sized production workflow;
  • Jorg Graphische Produkte GmbH (Hall 5, A23): another XC 14 MiniCoater will be used mainly to varnish documents printed by HP/Indigo digital presses.
