Sappi successfully advances plans for decarbonisation

Responding to climate change is one of the greatest challenges of our times. As a global company, Sappi is committed to being part of the solution and is focused on decarbonising its operations. As part of its long-term global commitment to climate protection and sustainable production, Sappi will be abandoning the use of coal at its German site in Stockstadt as a next step. To this end, the current coal-fired Boiler 9 will be decommissioned, and the mill will be operated using only renewable biomass and natural gas.

Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG is completely revamping its Prinect print shop workflow, which will now be available in the cloud. The new workflow suite is called “Prinect Direct” and marks a further milestone on the way to autonomous production in print shops. All the new workflow’s functions will gradually be made available to customers in the form of cloud-based apps.

Over recent months, the company has been managing an increase in the cost of raw aluminium, together with significant increases in the costs associated with its logistics supply chain, other raw materials and of course of energy.

Raff & Wurzel invests in high-performance printing technology

At the beginning of the month, Raff & Wurzel Druck from Riederich in the south-west of Germany ordered a new high-performance press from the Rapida 106 X series made by Koenig & Bauer. It is scheduled to enter production in the late summer. The company has celebrated a very successful first business year since its relaunch in February 2021, and views the investment as vital preparation for further growth and future market challenges.

Drewsen Spezialpapiere invests in the expansion of its wastewater treatment plant

In preparation of future growth development, Drewsen Spezialpapiere is investing more than 1.5 million euros to develop its existing waste water treatment plant. At the core of this expansion project, is the addition of a new biological stage for the degradation of substances dissolved in the waste water. This is predominantly potato or corn starch explain Carsten Gatz and Gerhard Meyer, who spearhead the project.
