Mondi invests in FunctionalBarrier Paper Ultimate
Mondi is investing €16 million in new technology to produce a new packaging range called FunctionalBarrier Paper Ultimate. This ultra-high barrier paper-based solution for food meets growing customer demand for sustainable packaging that contributes to a circular economy. The new addition expands Mondi’s existing portfolio of FunctionalBarrier Papers providing high-barrier paper-based packaging for food products such as dried foods and powdered milk as well as for applications in the home and personal care industry.
Web offset and LED UV breakthrough technology successfully combined at Bradford & Bigelow
Manroland Goss successfully completes installation of a new press line for the full-service book printing company Bradford & Bigelow of Massachusetts, USA. After having relied on manroland Goss presses in the past, the book printer, once again, decided on a customized Lithoman IV from Augsburg. What is new is that the press prints high-quality UV inks and is equipped with a powerful LED UV dryer. This means that the Lithoman IV is also impressive in terms of energy efficiency.

Sappi will be introducing its extensive range of face stock papers, silicone base papers and wet-glue label papers at the upcoming Labelexpo Europe in Brussels from 11 to 14 September 2023. Bobst reveals its Innovation Award winners for 2023
Bobst has presented its annual Inventor Awards, given to innovators and their patents within the business that have pushed the boundaries of technology to enhance print and packaging workflows for customers. For 2023, Bobst has issued two awards for the first time. The main Inventor Award has been presented to Patrice Chatry and Maude Steiner, inventors of the Non-Stop with Automatic Swords Selection innovation, while a Special Jury Award has been presented to Rene Heinze, inventor of an intermediate dryer in particular for rotary printing presses.
Model AG invested in a new Chroma X Pro 2100 by Koenig & Bauer Celmacch
Model AG placed an order with Koenig & Bauer Celmacch for a Chroma X Pro machine, with a working width of 2,100 mm and 7 printing units. The new line will be delivered in Summer 2024 and installed at the Weinfelden plant in Switzerland.

IN Groupe announces that it has agreed to acquire 100% of the shares of Gleitsmann Security Inks GmbH (“GSI”) from hubergroup Deutschland GmbH for an undisclosed consideration in cash. IN Groupe (formerly known as Imprimerie Nationale) is a French-headquartered global specialist in identity and secured digital services, addressing more than 130 countries in the world. In addition to its solutions dedicated to legal and professional identity security, IN Groupe develops and sales security components for identities, and banknotes through its dedicated brands Surys (optical components) and SPS (electronic components).
Packaging machines: Total turnover rises to €8.53 billion
The automatic packing and packaging machines industry marks a historic milestone: in 2022, the industry recorded a total turnover of €8.537 billion, improving the previous record set in 2021 by 3.6%. Considering the 2019-2022 period overall, the industry's turnover has grown by approximately half a billion euros in just 4 years, recording the uptrend despite the outbreak of the pandemic and its adverse impacts worldwide.

Swiss commercial printing company Wallimann Druck & Verlag is investing in its future, and has purchased a high-end sheetfed offset press from Koenig & Bauer for its production facility in Beromünster. The five-colour Rapida 76 with inline coater and extended delivery in Koenig & Bauer’s award-winning design will lend a significant boost to production efficiency by allowing faster makeready and higher printing speeds – in combination with top print quality.
