Mondi’s Protector Bag ExpandForm wins the German Packaging Award 2023

Mondi has won the German Packaging Award 2023, which is awarded by the German Packaging Institute, in the category “material substitution" for Protector Bag ExpandForm. Developed in collaboration with Megaflex Schaumstoff, a family-owned manufacturer for flexible foams, mattresses and sleeping products, Protector Bag ExpandForm replaces the current plastic packaging for mattress rollpacking with a flexible and recyclable paper bag solution.

MM: Results for the 1st half-year 2023

Peter Oswald, MM CEO, comments: “The development of the MM Group in the 1st half-year reflects the continuing weak demand in the cartonboard and paper sector after the record year 2022. As already communicated in mid-June, the significant decline in results is mainly attributable to the weak volume development in the division MM Board & Paper. In contrast, the division MM Packaging was able to record an overall positive performance with the successful integration of last year's acquisitions in the resilient pharmaceutical packaging sector and factoring in one-off restructuring costs.”

Highest precision for the measurement of anilox rollers

Sibress, manufacturer of measurement and analysis systems for quality assurance in flexographic and package printing from Starnberg near Munich, has now taken over the distribution of the Veritas measurement microscope from MicroDynamics, USA, in addition to the products it has developed itself. The corresponding distribution agreement was concluded for the entire European area as well as the neighbouring countries. Sibress has already been selling the white light interferometer MD3Dqc since 2011.

Change at the helm of Koenig & Bauer Flexotecnica

Koenig & Bauer has appointed Peter Andrich, the successful CEO of Koenig & Bauer (IT) S.r.l., as the new CEO of its subsidiary Koenig & Bauer Flexotecnica S.p.A.. Andrich, who has more than 25 years' experience in sales and management and has been CEO of Koenig & Bauer (IT) in Lainate near Milan since 2018, will now take over from Luigi Magliochi as CEO of Koenig & Bauer Flexotecnica S.p.A. in Tavazzano, in addition to his responsibilities at the site.

Flint Group removes mineral oil from sheetfed process

Global print consumables manufacturer Flint Group has solidified its reputation as the sustainable ink supplier of choice after announcing that all its Sheetfed process ink series are now mineral oil free. The full range of Flint Group’s K+E process series is now exclusively made from more sustainable formulations, under plans to increase the use of environmentally friendly raw materials and make packaging easier to recycle.

Riverside Print & Signs plays dress up with Drytac ReTac Smooth

Ontario-based printing and signage specialist Riverside Print & Signs recently used ReTac Smooth 150 polymeric PVC film from Drytac to produce a series of colourful wall graphics for Great Pretenders’ new space in New York City. Owned by Creative Education of Canada, Great Pretenders designs and manufactures dress-up, toys, jewellery, and accessories for children. The brand recently opened a new space at FAO Schwarz in New York to reach more customers in the US and required help decorating the facility.

Klingele invest again in a ChromaCut X Pro from Koenig & Bauer Celmacch

The Klingele Paper & Packaging Group invests again in a ChromaCut X Pro from Koenig & Bauer Celmacch. The machine will be delivered in April 2024 and production start up is planned for July 2024. The partnership between the two companies thus finds a successful continuation. „When we started developing the first machine with Koenig & Bauer just over five years ago, I felt that another premium supplier would be a benefit for our industry. The last few years have proven that Koenig & Bauer is now exactly that supplier,“ says Dr. Jan Klingele, Managing Director at Klingele.

Maximising the recyclability of paper sacks

The proposed EU Regulation on Packaging and Packaging Waste (PPWR) aims to tackle the problem of growing packaging waste. One of the targets is to make all packaging recyclable by 2030. To support sack kraft paper producers, paper sack converters and fillers to maximise the recyclability of all paper sacks placed on the market, EUROSAC and CEPI Eurokraft have published Paper Sacks - Design for Recyclability Guidelines. These guidelines provide recommendations for the materials used and for the physical construction of paper sacks.
