MPH invests in Shine LED Lamp Kit
Flexo prepress specialist MPH Ltd is among the latest UK trade shops to take the fast, affordable, straightforward route into LED plate exposure with the Shine LED Lamp Kit, innovated by Miraclon. The Shine LED Lamp Kit was fitted to a Vianord flexo plate exposure unit, supplied by Clarkson Services, and, says MPH director Ian Runacres, “is delivering all the benefits we anticipated. Exposures are on average 30% faster, consistent, and plate behaviour is utterly predictable. At present, more than 80% of our plates - from various suppliers - are exposed using Shine LED lamps.”

Mondi spices up ultra-high barrier paper packaging for Prymat
Mondi has collaborated with Prymat, the Polish dried seasoning manufacturer, to create packaging that contributes to a circular economy while protecting its aromatic spices. The partnership will see Prymat transition to new paper-based packaging, created with Mondi’s re/cycle FunctionalBarrier Paper Ultimate. This ultra-high barrier solution was chosen following extensive trials and tests, which proved it to be a sustainable alternative to conventionally non-recyclable multi-layer structures.
Sappi Europe announces price increase for label papers
Following an extended period of downward pressure, label paper prices have reached unsustainable levels. In the face of continued cost increases, Sappi Europe, producer of Label papers, announces 8% to 10% price increases for the Parade range of label papers including, non-wet strength and wet strength Wet Glue Label papers and Self-Adhesive Face papers, effective 1 April 2026.

Miraclon and W&H strengthen partnership with Flexcel NX Ultra 42
Miraclon has reinforced its longstanding partnership with Windmöller & Hölscher (W&H) through the installation of a new Flexcel NX Ultra 42 Solution at the W&H Technology Center in Lengerich, Germany. The new system replaces the previously installed Flexcel NX Ultra 35 Solution, giving W&H a larger-format, water-processed platemaking solution to demonstrate a broader range of realistic customer applications and press configurations, enabling visitors to see the full potential of modern flexo in a real-world environment.

The determination of the residual peroxide content in empty packaging is part of the routine tests on hygienic filling machines of VDMA hygiene classes III, IV and V for liquid food that use sterilizing agents based on hydrogen peroxide. The document no. 01 of the VDMA Food Processing and Packaging Machinery Association describes the methods for determining the residual peroxide content in empty packaging that has been sterilized in or before filling machines of VDMA hygiene classes III, IV and V for liquid food using sterilization media containing hydrogen peroxide. The measurements ensure that the sterilized packaging placed on the market does not have a negative impact on the product quality.

Hubergroup confirms full GIO compliance for packaging products
With the German Printing Ink Ordinance (GIO) set to apply from January 2027, manufacturers of printing inks for food packaging are facing strict regulatory requirements aimed at ensuring consumer safety. Compliance with these regulations demands extensive development work, reformulation and thorough testing across product portfolios. Nonetheless, the international ink specialist hubergroup Print Solutions confirms it already fully complies with the German Printing Ink Ordinance today. All hubergroup products intended for food packaging applications meet the requirements defined by the GIO.
