Blockfoil installs 5th Masterwork 1060 MK 1060 ST

Blockfoil has installed its fifth Masterwork Graphic Equipment MK 1060 ST automatic foil stamping press in order to handle the increase in packaging work being won by the group. The latest machine joins another MK 1060 ST at Blockfoil’s Ipswich factory.

“There is a big move at the moment for UK manufacturers to have their packaging produced locally rather than sending it overseas and we have seen an increase in the amount of foiling we are being asked to put on to a wide range of packaging work,” says Blockfoil’s managing director Barry Corbett. “Many manufacturers want technical help during the design stage in order to most effectively use, for example, images, varnishes, substrates and foil. In addition, everyone wants to know how to reduce their production costs!

“Our ability to provide expert advice across all these areas is proving a real attraction to customers of all sizes and we are backing up this knowledge by investing in the best equipment on the market for the processes involved. Masterwork Graphic Equipment is a pioneer in the field of foil stamping and die cutting and the purchase of our fifth MK 1060 ST is confirmation of the machine’s reliability, productivity and accuracy.”

The MK 1060 ST will handle stock from 0.1 – 2 mm (90 – 2,000 gsm) and has a maximum stamping area of 1,060 x 740 mm. Like all Masterwork equipment this model is built for fast throughput and, depending upon the amount of foil, the MK 1060 ST can run at more than 7,000 sph. Productivity and accuracy are enhanced by the high level of automation that is incorporated into all Masterwork equipment. The MABEG feeder on the MK 1060 ST ensures reliable feeding of stock, while servo motors feed foil in two directions, reducing wastage to a minimum - another key feature behind the design of the Masterwork range. The pneumatic lock-up system for the honeycomb chase and support plate results in easy and quick operation, while the use of pneumatics and air blowers guarantee sheets are placed smoothly and precisely into the delivery pile.

“Carrying out adjustments is so straightforward that the MK 1060 ST is the most user friendly foil stamping press on the market,” says Barry Corbett. “Over the last twelve months we’ve been running our Masterwork machines around the clock for significant periods of time and their reliability has been excellent. Our first model is five years old and still working perfectly, handling jobs ranging from 5,000 to 100,000 sheets.

“One of the points that make Masterwork stand out from the competition is its ability and willingness to innovate. The company is continually developing new features and systems based on the feedback it receives from users and for us, as a customer, it’s a good feeling to know that you’re being listened to!”
