MASTERWORK BREAKS NEW GROUND WITH MK1450ER DIE CUTTER

Masterwork Graphic Equipment has added to its extensive range of die cutters, foil stamping systems, folder/gluers and embossers with the launch of the MK1450ER, the first large format die cutter with stripping and blanking facilities of its kind to be made by a Chinese company

“Masterwork’s factory in Tianjin is one of the most modern plants in the world for the manufacture of post press equipment, and the products launched over the last few years have really pushed forward the boundaries of what can be achieved in terms of versatility, registration accuracy and sheer productivity,” says European sales manager Ken Farnsworth, who heads the European office in Wakefield, UK.

The new MK1450ER can be used with an extensive range of carton board, from 0.1 – 2.0 mm (90 – 2,000 gsm) and will handle corrugated board up to 5 mm thick. The machine can die cut up to 1,450 x 1,050 mm with an accuracy of ± 0.15 mm and provides a maximum die cutting force of 600 metric tons. The sophisticated non-stop feeder precisely controls stock taken from the pile, which can be as high as 1,600 mm, and ensures that sheets are presented into the die cutting unit in exactly the right position.

“All Masterwork equipment incorporates sophisticated automation, which enables the high levels of throughput for which our models are renowned around the world. For instance, the MK1450ER has a top speed of 5,000 sph. What’s also important to remember is that this is achieved with only one operator, who is able to control the machine via an easy to use colour touch-screen.”

The fast speeds attainable with the MK1450ER are aided by the new design of gripper registration used in the die cutter, which has not only improved throughput speed but resulted in even greater stability of stock as it moves through the unit. The cutting chase has a pneumatic bi-directional locking device while the lower supporting plate also has a pneumatic lock up system. Great attention has been paid to quality and accuracy at every stage of the machine’s robust construction, with heavy-duty parts used to ensure longevity.

Sheets continue to be very tightly controlled as they enter the stripping and blanking unit, which is simple and quick to set up. Waste is removed automatically by the system.
The maximum delivery pile height is 1,350 mm and the delivery section can collect finished products or whole sheets. If required, jobs can be split into batches, which can be pre-set at the start of the run.

At Ipex 2014 - 24th – 29th March, ExCel, London - Masterwork (stand N4-D375) will be launching into Europe its new MK420Q MINI high-speed/precision carton inspection system, which provides 100 per cent continuous inspection 24 hours a day. Throughout the exhibition Masterwork will be running demonstrations at its Wakefield factory of the new high-speed MK1060 MF die-cutter.
