Arctic Paper launches new product family for packaging

Arctic Paper Grycksbo, Sweden, introduces its AP-Tec portfolio of coated paper products for packaging applications. The three products in the new range, AP-Tec Liner, AP-Tec Pack and AP-Tec Flex, feature high bulk and excellent printability, achieved thanks to Arctic Paper Grycksbo’s unique coating technology. A number of packaging segments have been identified and products developed targeted for these segments.

“During the last twelve months, we have run comprehensive marketing studies and technical product development programmes in the mill as well as on-site at packaging converters,” says Jaana Ahlroos, product manager coated products at Arctic Paper. “Our unique coating technology, Mirroblade, gives both an excellent print result and contributes to a higher bulk than is achieved with common blade coating technology. That’s why it’s a logical step for us to focus on packaging segments where high whiteness and excellent print, as well as runnability in converting machines, are needed. The properties of the new AP-Tec products offer enhanced performance during packaging production and aesthetic advantages to the packaged product on the retail shelf.”

AP-Tec Liner is a coated, fully bleached liner with high whiteness and is especially suited for preprint and lamination on corrugated board. It is particularly suited for brands requiring advanced print, high whiteness and finish to give the product the right image.

AP-Tec Pack is a double-sided, coated solid board in high whiteness, particularly aimed at smaller packaging where print quality, runnability and cost efficiency are crucial. The third product in the packaging range is AP-Tec Flex, a coated packaging paper in high whiteness, especially suited for extrusion, lamination and flexible packaging.

“All of our AP-Tec products are manufactured from virgin fibres, which for many applications have a clear advantage compared with recycled products. Arctic Paper Grycksbo has a good environmental track record. The fossil emissions of CO² are now down to zero and the mill has very low water consumption. Furthermore, all certifications critical to the business from standards bodies including ISO, EMAS, FSCTM* and PEFC are in place,” adds Jaana Ahlroos.

Over the years, Arctic Paper Grycksbo’s paper products have been used successfully outside the traditional graphics market, in niches like exclusive bags. The launch of the AP-Tec programme, however, represents a strengthened commitment by the Swedish mill towards the packaging market.
