Drewsen Spezialpapiere increases format capacity

To continue the steady growth of its specialty paper formats, Drewsen has invested in a highly efficient Questec small-lot sheeter from BW Papersystems. The new sheeting line, tailored to Drewsen’s requirements, can cut a wide range of papers weights from 30-300 g/m2, in a single layer at speeds of up to 400 m/min. Security papers with cut to register watermarks can also be precisely finished.

Since February 2021, Drewsen has been working in close collaboration with machine specialists at BW Papersystems on an 850 mm pilot line, to develop a system capable of delivering the diverse requirements of Drewsen’s customers.

“After extensive machine trials, we quickly moved into the planning and construction phase of the new Questec machine, tailored to our needs.

“Installation of the new 1,350 mm wide machine has now been completed and is off to a great start; the machine is already operating seven days a week and we have seen particular success in the excellent stack quality and high cutting accuracy. Drewsen now has a sheeting line capable of delivering fast and efficient production of both large and small batches, and is well equipped to face the demands of the future.

“Thanks to the close cooperation with BW Papersystems, many of our operators' suggestions for the customized sheeter could be implemented. I think that BW Papersystems has succeeded in a minor revolution: cutting small lots so highly efficiently - this has never been done before,” reports CEO Dr. Matthias Rauhut.
