Vision AI Xcelerix Brings Scalable GPU Performance to Industrial Machine Vision

Imago Technologies GmbH, a specialist in embedded vision and industrial machine vision, is expanding its portfolio with the Vision AI Xcelerix. The new industrial GPU expansion provides additional computing power for AI-intensive machine vision applications, enabling machine builders to flexibly scale the GPU performance of their vision systems as requirements grow.

Vision AI Xcelerix is based on MXM GPU technology and has been specifically designed for use in industrial machinery and equipment. Unlike conventional consumer graphics cards, the compact solution combines powerful GPU acceleration with the requirements of continuous industrial operation. Key features include a 24 V power supply, control cabinet integration, and long-term hardware availability.

The GPU expansion connects to the vision computer via USB4. This allows additional GPU computing power to be added externally without changing the machine’s underlying computer architecture. Applications such as deep learning, AI-based inspection, or the parallel processing of large volumes of image data can therefore benefit from additional computing performance.

The solution offers particular flexibility when combined with the Vision Box AGE-X6 from Imago Technologies. The compact industrial PC is designed as a scalable platform for both classical and AI-based machine vision. Vision AI Xcelerix can be added via USB4 whenever additional GPU performance is required. Machine builders can therefore start with a powerful CPU-based platform and integrate additional GPU computing power only when the application actually requires it.

This modular approach offers significant advantages, particularly for machines with long product life cycles. While AI models and GPU technologies continue to evolve rapidly, industrial machines often remain in operation for ten years or more. Instead of replacing the entire vision computer as performance requirements increase, the required computing power can be expanded as needed. The existing system architecture remains in place, reducing the effort associated with a complete platform migration.
