The collaboration between Aetna Group and Pellini Caffè, a historic Italian company symbolizing excellence in the world of coffee, is a concrete example of how technological innovation and tradition can grow together under the banner of Made in Italy. The project is based at the Bussolengo production plant (Verona), the heart of Pellini Caffè’s industrial operations and one of the most advanced facilities in the sector.
Founded in 1922, Pellini Caffè is rooted in the entrepreneurial tradition of the Pellini family. The company’s activity dedicated to coffee began in the post-war period, marking the start of a growth path that has led it to become one of the leading players in both the Italian and international markets. Today, Pellini Caffè employs around 150 people and operates through its modern Bussolengo plant, inaugurated in 2005. More than twenty years after its construction, the site continues to be a benchmark for innovation, automation and production quality in the coffee industry. Constant attention to raw material selection, combined with ongoing research into production process efficiency, has always been one of the company’s core values.
The partnership with Aetna Group began in 2004 and has strengthened over the years through the introduction of increasingly advanced technological solutions, supporting Pellini Caffè’s production growth and evolving market needs. To optimize the packaging line, and particularly the end-of-line phase, the plant uses several solutions from the Group’s brands, which today represent a complete ecosystem guided by clear priorities: operator safety, product integrity, material optimization and business sustainability. The Group’s brands — Robopac, OCME, Meypack, TopTier and Sotemapack — cover the entire end-of-line process across multiple sectors: from secondary packaging to palletizing, from load stabilization to automated intralogistics.
Aetna Group solutions for Pellini
Six Sotemapack WA20 wrap-around cartoners are integrated into the production line. Compact and versatile, the WA20 machines are designed to handle a wide range of packaging formats, ensuring high operational flexibility. The ability to package products in different solutions — including wrap-around cartons, trays and tray & lid — has supported the ongoing growth of the collaboration between Pellini Caffè and Aetna Group. This versatility in handling flexible products enables the company to effectively respond to changing market demands and to continuously expand its offering with new solutions.
The line is also equipped with a Robopac Rotoplat 508, a semi-automatic turntable stretch wrapper for vertical wrapping of palletized loads. Designed to offer maximum operational versatility, the machine stands out for its high reliability, ease of use and numerous configuration options, allowing it to adapt to different production needs. Thanks to its performance and wrapping quality, the Rotoplat 508 ensures perfect pallet stabilization, helping optimize the efficiency and safety of the entire logistics process.
A focus on quality
Federico Pellini, President of Pellini Caffè S.p.A. and representative of the second generation of the family, describes the shared journey with Aetna Group: “Our family has always placed fundamental importance on quality: a passion that concerns first and foremost the raw material and, naturally, all production processes. In recent years, we have faced significant technological upgrades and new challenges. In this context, the new Sotemapack cartoner made the difference: it was chosen to support the development of a new market niche dedicated to whole-bean products and because of the trust built over many years of collaboration. Thanks to Aetna Group’s solutions, we were also able to eliminate shrink-film packaging, adopting paper-based solutions that align with our sustainability goals. Today, looking to the future, we have strengthened corporate governance with the appointment of a new General Manager and defined a three-year industrial plan that will lead us to exceed 100 million euros in turnover. Our goals are to further increase our presence in foreign markets and accelerate development in the portioned-products segment.”
Innovation supporting growth
The collaboration between Pellini Caffè and Aetna Group demonstrates how a long-standing relationship can evolve into a true shared growth path. The integration of advanced technologies for secondary packaging and end-of-line operations has increased flexibility, efficiency and sustainability, supporting the company in expanding into new markets and developing new products — without ever losing sight of the value that has distinguished the Pellini brand for over a century: quality.
