Austrian packaging manufacturer increases production capacities thanks to solutions from Heidelberg

The Cardbox Packaging Group, a leading provider of sustainable cardboard packaging for the food, cosmetics, and consumer goods industries, is once again investing in the cutting-edge technology of Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (Heidelberg) and its packaging partner MK Masterwork. By investing in a new Duopress 106 FCSB from MK Masterwork, Cardbox Packaging is increasing its capacities for operations such as hot foil stamping in the postpress section of its Wolfsberg site in Austria. The company already has three high-performance Mastermatrix 106 CSB die cutters in operation at this site, supported by comprehensive state-of-the-art logistics systems.

The Duopress 106 FCSB that Cardbox Packaging is now planning to install will be delivered and commissioned at the beginning of 2026. “By investing in the Duopress 106 FCSB from MK Masterwork, we are building on our leading role in premium packaging printing and focusing specifically on technologies we can use to increase the end-to-end efficiency and sustainability of our production process and respond flexibly to market requirements,” says Chris Düringer, Director of the Cardbox Packaging Group.

Cardbox Packaging has opted for end-to-end solutions from Heidelberg in large parts of its production operations. For example, the company has several Speedmaster sheetfed offset presses in use at its international sites and is increasingly utilizing high-performance systems from MK Masterwork in its postpress operations. What’s more, key areas of the production workflow are integrated via the Prinect workflow.

“By seamlessly integrating the postpress solutions of our long-standing partner MK Masterwork into our customers’ production processes, Heidelberg is demonstrating its expertise as an end-to-end systems integrator in the packaging segment,” emphasizes Dr. David Schmedding, Chief Technology & Sales Officer at Heidelberg. “The fact that a premium user such as Cardbox Packaging is keen to make follow-up investments shows that – especially when it comes to packaging postpress – excellent efficiency potential exists and we are giving our customers exactly what they are looking for,” he adds.

Top-level postpress operations

The Duopress 106 FCSB from MK Masterwork combines hot foil stamping, die cutting, stripping, and blanking in a single step. This machine is therefore ideal for the high requirements associated with applications such as packaging for luxury confectionery, the tobacco industry, the cosmetics sector, and premium liquor brands. Its efficient and precise processing also extends to other folding cartons that brand manufacturers use to promote the high-quality contents of packaging at the point of sale.

Heidelberg sees major efficiency potential in postpress packaging

As Heidelberg sees it, postpress packaging is a market segment with significant potential. To coincide with the celebrations marking the company’s 175th anniversary, Heidelberg is therefore launching a campaign with attractive offers relating to the postpress solutions of its Chinese partner MK Masterwork.

  • Customers using the Mastermatrix 106 CSB and Promatrix 106 CSB die cutters can benefit from exclusive offers for the Masterlogistic systems, a continuous pallet conveyor logistics solution from feeder to delivery with integrated automatic non-stop feeder.
