Dear reader,

referring to the situation in the printing market as "mixed" the KBA chief considers sheetfed ofsett successfull, but rollfed offset weak. And 'Heideldruck' will right itself in the sheetfed area. Some negative news reached us from Stuttgart: the traditional Ernst Nagel is insolvent because apparently the domestic market was too weak. But in order to be "mixed", please read the other more positive messages of our newsletter for this week below!

CSQ Uses HP Inkjet Web Press to Produce Special Edition Newspaper

HP has announced that Centro Stampa Quotidiani Spa (CSQ), of Erbusco in Lombardy, Northern Italy, used its HP T230 Color Inkjet Web Press to produce a special edition newspaper, La Gazette Paulette, for the Paris-based Paulette Magazine during the Cannes Film Festival.
KBA joins the International Packaging Group (IPG)

Koenig & Bauer (KBA) has been a member of the in der International Packaging Group (IPG) since January 2013 and takes the place of a German competitor who recently left the group. Founded in 1963 in Switzerland, IPG is an international association of folding carton producers. Its members include leading folding box manufacturers from 24 countries.
Lifetime achievement accolade for Tomas Rink

The recipient of the 2013 R. Stanton Avery Lifetime Achievement Award is announced as Tomas Rink, president Ritrama Group. The Label Industry Global Awards judging panel met in Munich prior to the opening Finat’s annual Congress, to review nominations across four award categories.
Sappi to Showcase Speciality Paper Solutions at FachPack 2013

In its first appearance at FachPack, Sappi Fine Paper Europe will be demonstrating how Sappi’s speciality papers allow brand owners and converters to differentiate their products on the shelf, especially in the face of increased competition that results in a need for more innovative substrates and finishing. Sappi will be located on Stand 604 in Hall 7 at the show, which is taking place in Nuremberg, Germany, 24-26 September, 2013.
Retrofit for operator technology and control console system

With a focus on reliable production the Lithoman at “Aller Trykk” in Norway was retrofitted. Manroland Web Systems develops integrated solutions for retrofits on older printing presses to reduce press downtimes and associated costs while boosting the performance of the printing system.
Finat Announces Label Awards Winners 2013

Finat, the worldwide association representing the interests of the self-adhesive labelling industry, announced the winners of its 33rd label awards competition at the award ceremony of its annual congress in Münich. With a slightly lower number, still 52 companies from 29 countries worldwide, including the Ukraine and Lebanon, submitted their entries amounting to a total of 245.
Bell & Bain orders world’s first Jet Press 540W

Fujifilm Europe has announced that Bell & Bain Ltd, based in Glasgow, UK, is the first company in the world to place an order for Fujifilm’s digital inkjet web press, the Jet Press 540W. Founded in 1831, Bell & Bain Ltd specialises in the printing and binding of business, educational, financial, medical, scientific and religious books, and learned journals.
Heidelberg achieves key milestone in financial year 2012/2013

Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (Heidelberg) has reached a key milestone on its way to long-term profitability by meeting its own forecasts and achieving a clearly positive operating result excluding special items in financial year 2012/2013 (April 1, 2012 to March 31, 2013).
Xeikon introduces new groundbreaking ICE toner

Xeikon has announced the launch of a new toner for its digital label presses. The ICE toner will be demonstrated at Labelexpo Europe in Brussels, and will be available for customers as from Q4-2013. Part of the Xeikon Label Suite, the new toner is ideal for heat sensitive substrates including PE facestock (polyethylene) and thermal labels.
KBA: Consolidation and realignment continue

At the 88th annual general meeting of the world’s second-largest press manufacturer Koenig & Bauer AG (KBA) at the Vogel Convention Center in Würzburg, KBA president and CEO Claus Bolza-Schünemann (photo) painted a mixed picture of the current situation in the printing press market.

KapStone to Acquire Longview Fibre Paper and Packaging, Inc.

KapStone Paper and Packaging Corporation and Longview Fibre Paper and Packaging, Inc. have jointly announced that they have signed an agreement for KapStone to acquire the stock of Longview Fibre Paper and Packaging, Inc. from Brookfield Capital Partners II, a private equity fund managed by Brookfield Asset Management Inc. in a cash free, debt free transaction for $1.025 billion in cash and subject to certain post-closing adjustments. Closing of the acquisition is subject to a number of customary conditions, including regulatory review.

PolyMX ejection material now widely available on English and Irish market

PolyMX, Dutch specialist in ejection material for the die-cutting industry, is expanding its presence on the English and Irish market. Starting last month, Polytop MX, the long-lasting ejection system designed especially for the packaging industry, will be available in the United Kingdom via die makers: Arden Dies Ltd., Ralegh Integrated Solutions, Laserline Dies Ltd. and Farr Formes. Truform Laser Dies Ltd. has become the partner for the Irish market.
Good reasons for a system change

Between 2006 and 2010, the Main-Post Media Group printing centre underwent a three-phase update with the acquisition of two KBA Commander CT presses. In addition to all local editions of the Main-Post with a total circulation of almost 140,000 copies on Saturdays, the printing centre produces a further 50,000 copies for other regional newspapers.
Rotoman HiPrint goes glam

High gloss is the name of the game at Toppan Leefung in the Chinese city of Shenzen. After all, this is where premium fashion magazines, such as the Chinese Vogue, are produced. On April 18, 2013, the printing company radiated even more brilliance when it received the managing directors and managers of around 20 leading webfed printing companies and their combined expertise.
Iggesund launches upgraded Incada

Iggesund Paperboard is advising customers to expect an upgrading of its folding box board Incada. From this autumn Incada will be whiter and lighter and also have a number of improved properties affecting printability. Incada Exel, which is more targeted as a packaging board, will also have improved stiffness. For grammages over 300 g/m2 this gain will be as much as 10 to 15 per cent.

Industry Veteran, Dan Maffeo Joins FFEI
