Thimm installs unique technology across Europe17.01.2020

Thimm is once again assuming the role of pioneer and has invested in a machine for the digital laser cutting of corrugated cardboard. The new Highcon Beam 2C machine is, according to Thimm, unique in Europe as regards its design and opens up unusually creative opportunities for packaging designers. Lasers can cut delicate designs out of corrugated cardboard which previously could only be produced with difficulty, or not at all.

SIG drives climate agenda with new 1.5°C target09.01.2020

SIG has set a bold new climate target that is one of the first in its industry to be approved by the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) as being in line with the latest climate science to limit global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels to prevent the worst effects of climate change. Kodak is introducing its Ultrastream technology in the new Uteco Sapphire EVO W, the first flexible packaging press to enter the market using Kodak’s latest continuous inkjet technology. The first Ultrastream system with a print width of 1.25 meters has been sold into the market in advance of its expected debut at drupa 2020 in Dusseldorf, Germany with a healthy pipeline of active prospects. Feldmuehle: Products from one source in 202028.11.2019

Feldmuehle GmbH, manufacturer of label and flexible packaging papers, launched already in 2009 the new development of a label paper with 40 percent waste paper content (LabelSet PCW). As part of Feldmuehle’s realignment and the discussion on sustainability, work is underway to develop new papers based on recycling fibres. From the second quarter of 2020, the portfolio will be expanded by another wet-strength label paper and will be available to the market.

First Primefire 106 starts production in Japan27.11.2019

The Japanese packaging printer Kabushiki Kaisha Kyoshin Paper & Package (K.K.Kyoshin Paper & Package) and Heidelberg Japan put the first Primefire 106 from Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (Heidelberg) into operation at a ceremony in early November. This also marks the launch of the first industrial inkjet digital printing system in B1 format in Japan.

Successful commissioning of the first HP PageWide T1190 Press to be installed in Asia. Rengo Co., Ltd, a Japanese packaging supplier, celebrated the start of production with a grand ceremony in August. This was also the first time that the “widest digital printing press in the world” had been supplied in a six-colour version. “We are very satisfied with our press. The cooperation with HP and Koenig & Bauer was absolutely flawless. And since the commissioning, the press has been fulfilling all our prior expectations in terms of performance,” says Junjiro Watanabe, general manager for technical development at Rengo.

Firstly, Mark Siepmann took over responsibility for day-to-day management from his father Thomas. Gallus celebrates sold Labelmaster No. 10006.11.2019

Gallus, a subsidiary of Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (Heidelberg), celebrated a milestone at Labelexpo Europe 2019 : the Gallus Labelmaster No. 100 is being installed at the printing company Interfas, based in Louviers, France. The conventional press with a printing width of 440 mm is equipped with eight flexographic printing units and three die-cutting units. Cold foil finishing is integrated, too. It is the first Gallus Labelmaster and the first flexo press for Interfas, which has previously relied exclusively on label production with offset printing.

Making history: The PM 8's first production run30.10.2019

Everyone had one goal in mind and then it happened: The paper machine at the Kehl plant produced its first paper role on October 22, 2019. A historic day for the traditional company Koehler on its way into the future. “We are proud of everyone who worked together with us to reach this moment,” says Kai Furler, CEO of the Koehler Group. The new Paper Machine 8 has just produced the first tambour. This brings a long construction and planning phase to a close, which began with in-house pilot studies back in February 2017.
