Clariant introduces innovative halogen- and cobalt dichloride-free Type 2 Non-reversible Humidity Indicator Cards17.09.2019

Advanced technology is an integral part of society, with electronic and digital devices becoming ubiquitous. To ensure the integrity of devices ranging from personal electronics, including computers and cell phones, to industrial automation solutions, it is critical that these moisture-sensitive components such as printed circuit boards (PCBs) and surface mount devices (SMDs) are carefully transported and stored. SMDs for instance, are comprised of many powerful and essential processors, chipsets, diodes, transistors and integrated circuits that power today’s digital devices and products. These components are very sensitive and can easily fail when exposed to moisture, due to cracking, delamination and “popcorning”.

The British printing plant Clays is adding an Alegro perfect binder and a Kolbus BF 530 bookline to its machine line-up, which already features 13 machines from Muller Martini. With the Alegro, Clays is expanding its digital production capacities – having already installed a Vareo perfect binder and InfiniTrim three-knife trimmer for (ultra) short runs in spring. Thanks to the high degree of automation seen on the new perfect binder, the printing plant – which is located in Bungay, England – can now also produce larger digital printing orders in a cost-efficient way.

Walki Group announced that it has signed a definitive purchase agreement to acquire 100 % of the shares of Mondi Belcoat NV, a Belgian extrusion coating company of Mondi Group. Belcoat produces highly specialised extrusion coated products serving customers across protective clothing, imaging, automotive and other speciality products markets. Belcoat is operating a manufacturing facility in Duffel, Belgium and employs just over 100 people. In 2018, Belcoat was generating a turnover of 37 million euros. Financial terms of the transaction have not been disclosed.

At around 1.5% according to current estimates, growth in industrial production in the first half of 2019 was much slower than expected. The downturn in growth in the global automotive industry was particularly strong: Globally, production declined by around 6% in the first half of 2019. In China, the world’s largest automotive market, the decrease was more than twice as high, at around 13%.

Bee-helping packaging winner of PIDA03.07.2019

For the 15th year in a row, the French edition of PIDA - Packaging Impact Design Award, was held in Reims, and this year, sustainability and recycling were in focus. The contesting design students from France and Germany presented creative and fun ideas on how to package clothes, accessories and beauty products in a more environmentally friendly way. And the design that had the best concept according to the jury, was Save the bees, created by students from Hochschule der Medien, in Stuttgart.

European Sign Expo 2019, the dedicated event for non-printed signage and visual communications has continued its year-on-year growth achieving record visitor numbers to its seventh edition, which took place in Munich, Germany from 14 to 17 May. 10,168 visitors attended European Sign Expo 2019, including sign-makers who travelled to the Bavarian capital specifically for the event, as well as those who also attended the co-located FESPA Global Print Expo.
