Fibria: Awarded for Atlantic Rainforest conservation project11.01.2012
Recently, Fibria took 1st place in the category "Conservation of Natural Resources", during the Ecology Awards 2011, presented by the Espírito Santo state government, for its project to restore approx. 9,000 ha of the Atlantic Rainforest.
A study developed by Fibria was also one of the topics at IUFRO Eucalyptus 2011, an international conference on the eucalyptus that was held in Porto Seguro (Bahia state) in November. The project "Carbon allocation and leaf gas exchange of Eucalyptus hybrid clones under different climates" tested and selected clones that were most efficient in utilising natural resources under adverse environmental conditions.
The conference was supported by the company and brought together the leading researchers from around the world who are studying the relation between silviculture and genetic improvement, with a view to reducing environmental stress on the eucalyptus.
