Up to 70 percent less scrap and changeover time with the Die Control Wizard

The Die Control Wizard (DCW) is a new automation module developed by the machine manufacturer Windmöller & Hölscher for the Filmex II cast film line. With the DCW width and thickness changes are possible in the shortest possible time during production. The process is fully automated. Manual adjustment of the dies is no longer necessary. The result: both changeover time and scrap are reduced by up to 70 percent.

New standards for sustainable materials in horizontal flow wrapping

At interpack 2020, Syntegon Technology, formerly Bosch Packaging Technology, will showcase two innovations, including its “paper-ON-form” upgrade kit for horizontal flow wrapping machines to form cold-sealable barrier paper. The solution was engineered in the company’s own development center in Beringen, Switzerland, and consists of a patented flow-wrap forming unit and sealing jaws for paper cold-sealing applications.

Color-Logic expands Pattern-FX library

The Color-Logic library of Pattern-FX embellishments has been expanded to 80 different designs, all of which are readily available to Color-Logic designers and licensed Color-Logic printers. Commenting on the expanded library, Color-Logic Director of Sales and Marketing Mark Geeves said: “Preparing complex, recurring patterns has traditionally required many hours of effort by graphic designers, but the Pattern-FX feature in the Color-Logic software suite makes the job effortless and trial-and-error free. Using Color-Logic Pattern-FX, even relatively unskilled designers and prepress operators can confidently execute complex designs and offer print customers an astounding array of pattern choices.”

Asahi to demonstrate new water recycling unit at drupa

Asahi Photoproducts announced the latest development in its CleanPrint strategy, a water recycling unit incorporated in new Asahi platemaking systems as a standard feature. This recycling unit uses 2 litres of water per square meter, versus 10 litres in units without the recycling unit, a reduction in platemaking waste water of 80%. In addition, minimal waste from the system, in the form of dry cake and a highly concentrated liquid extract, can be incinerated, with the liquid contributing to the cooling of the incineration plant, resulting in even more water savings. Existing Asahi platemaking systems can be retrofitted with the recycling unit so that all Asahi platemaking processes are more in harmony with the environment.

Lecta announces a price increase of Thermal papers for new orders, effective January 28, 2020. The increase will be around 8 to 10% in Thermal papers depending on country. According to Lecta, the price increase is unavoidable to offset the continuous increase in manufacturing and transport costs.

Thimm installs unique technology across Europe

The new Highcon Beam 2C machine is, according to Thimm, unique in Europe as regards its design and opens up unusually creative opportunities for packaging designers. First Ultrastream powered press sold

Kodak is introducing its Ultrastream technology in the new Uteco Sapphire EVO W, the first flexible packaging press to enter the market using Kodak’s latest continuous inkjet technology. The first Ultrastream system with a print width of 1.25 meters has been sold into the market in advance of its expected debut at drupa 2020 in Dusseldorf, Germany with a healthy pipeline of active prospects. New special paper Prostraw by Drewsen

Plastic drinking straws are one of the single use products that will be banned in a European directive from 2021. Drewsen, in partnership with paper straw manufacturers, have successfully developed an alternative to plastic straws: Prostraw, which provides high water resistance and absolute safety for direct food contact.
